Staff Safeguarding CPD

Safeguarding is everyone's responsibility.

At Fishburn Primary School, we are committed to ensuring that all staff have the knowledge, confidence and professional curiosity required to safeguard children effectively.

Safeguarding training is not viewed as a one-off event. Staff receive regular training, updates and opportunities to revisit key safeguarding themes throughout the school year.

Safeguarding Training

All staff receive appropriate safeguarding and child protection training as part of their induction and regular whole-school safeguarding training.

Staff are required to read Keeping Children Safe in Education 2026 – Part One and understand the school's safeguarding policies and procedures.

Training and updates include, where appropriate:

• recognising and responding to abuse, neglect and exploitation;
• reporting and recording safeguarding concerns;
• child-on-child abuse;
• online safety, including filtering and monitoring;
• the Prevent Duty;
• children who may require Early Help or Family Help;
• safeguarding children with SEND and other additional vulnerabilities;
• attendance and children missing education;
• domestic abuse;
• professional boundaries, low-level concerns and allegations;
• whistleblowing; and
• emerging and local safeguarding issues.

Ongoing Safeguarding Updates

Safeguarding knowledge is regularly refreshed throughout the year.

Staff receive updates through a range of approaches, including:

• safeguarding briefings and staff meetings;
• regular safeguarding bulletins;
• professional development and online training;
• updates following changes to statutory guidance;
• discussion of emerging or local safeguarding themes; and
• reminders about school procedures and reporting expectations.

This ensures that safeguarding remains an active and ongoing part of our school culture.

Designated Safeguarding Leads

Our Designated Safeguarding Lead and Deputy Designated Safeguarding Lead undertake appropriate specialist training and maintain their knowledge through regular updates and professional development.
