How SEND Support is Funded

At Fishburn Primary School, we are committed to ensuring that children with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND) receive appropriate support to meet their individual needs.

The school uses the funding and resources available to us to provide high-quality, inclusive provision for pupils with SEND. Support is planned according to each child’s identified needs and is regularly reviewed to ensure that it remains appropriate and effective.

How Funding is Used

SEND funding may be used in a range of ways depending on the individual needs of pupils. This may include:

• high-quality, inclusive teaching and appropriate adaptations to the curriculum;
• additional adult support where appropriate;
• targeted individual or small-group interventions;
• specialist resources and equipment;
• support for communication and interaction;
• support for social, emotional and mental health needs;
• staff training and professional development;
• advice and support from external professionals and specialist services; and
• reasonable adjustments to help children access learning and participate fully in school life.

Provision is based on identified need rather than a fixed number of hours of support.

Identifying and Reviewing Support

Where a child requires additional or different provision, support is planned and reviewed through the graduated approach of:

Assess → Plan → Do → Review

Parents and carers are involved in discussions about their child’s needs and the provision being made. The views of the child are also sought and considered in ways appropriate to their age and individual needs.

The impact of additional provision is monitored and reviewed regularly. Support may be adapted in response to a child’s progress and changing needs.

Additional Funding and Support

For some children with more complex or significant needs, the school may work with the Local Authority and other professionals to consider whether additional funding, specialist provision or further assessment is required.

Where appropriate, this may include support through an Education, Health and Care Plan (EHCP).

Having SEND or an EHCP does not automatically determine a particular type or number of hours of adult support. Provision is considered according to the individual child’s needs and the outcomes identified for them.

Working in Partnership

At Fishburn Primary School, we recognise that effective SEND provision relies on strong partnership working.

We work closely with:

• children and their families;
• school staff and our SENDCo;
• the Local Authority;
• health professionals;
• educational and specialist services; and
• other agencies where appropriate.

Our SENDCo is Miss Hannah Robertson, who oversees SEND provision and works with families, staff and external professionals to ensure that children receive appropriate support.
