Welcome to Early Years

At Fishburn Primary School, we are committed to providing a safe, nurturing and inclusive environment where every child feels valued, supported and excited to learn. We recognise that every child is unique, and our Early Years curriculum is carefully designed to build on children’s individual needs, interests, experiences and starting points.

We follow the Development Matters guidance to provide a rich and well-rounded Early Years curriculum. Our learning encompasses all seven areas of the Early Years Foundation Stage:

Learning Through Play

We believe that children learn best when they are actively involved in their learning. Through playing and exploring, being active, and developing their own creative and critical thinking, children are encouraged to become confident, curious and independent learners.

Our carefully planned indoor and outdoor environments provide children with opportunities to learn through both structured teaching and purposeful play. Adults support children to develop their knowledge, skills and vocabulary through high-quality interactions, modelling and meaningful experiences.

Alongside our play-based curriculum, children take part in daily phonics, literacy and mathematics teaching, with opportunities to apply and develop these skills throughout our continuous provision. We have a real love of books and stories and make time to share, enjoy and talk about stories, rhymes and texts every day.

Working in Partnership with Families

We believe that parents and families are an important part of children's learning journey. We use ClassDojo to share weekly overviews, photographs and updates about the learning taking place in Early Years. At the end of each term, we also share a class learning journey celebrating the children's experiences and achievements.

We really value the experiences children have at home and encourage families to share these with us by uploading photographs, videos and examples of home learning to your child's portfolio on ClassDojo.
